Lessons on Life

“There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge
things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look
at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in
summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe
what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.

The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so
sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping
with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they
had each seen but only one season in the tree’s life.

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season,
and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come
from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring,
the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.”

Moral lessons:

Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Don’t judge life by one difficult season.
Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or later

HAVING LUNCH WITH GOD

A quite inexpected story that reminds me that we should always do WWJD (what would Jesus do?)?

I want to dedicate this story to Sophie. Happy Birthday Sophie! And may you always shine like Jesus :)

“A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with a bag of potato chips and a six-pack of root beer and started his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park, just staring at some pigeons. The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her some chips. She gratefully accepted it and smiled at him.

Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered her a root beer. Again, she smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.

As twilight approached, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave; but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman, and gave her a hug. She gave him her biggest smile ever.

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, “What did you do today that made you so happy?” He replied, “I had lunch with God.” But before his mother could respond, he added, “You know what? She’s got the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen!”

Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face and he asked, “Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?” She replied! “I ate potato chips in the park with God.” However, before her son responded, she added, “You know, he’s much younger than I expected.”

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime! Embrace all equally!

Have lunch with God ……. bring chips.”

God still sits on the throne the devil is a liar. You may be going through a tough time right now but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can. Keep the faith. My instructions were to pick four people that I wanted God to bless, and I picked you.

Reality or Fantasy?

“Wait for the guy that pursues you, the one that makes every day seem magical, the guy that makes you feel so amazing about yourself and can make you smile every minute you are with him. Wait for the guy who shows you off to his friends when you are in sweats, but appreciates when you get all dolled up for him. Wait for the guy who puts you at the center of his universe, because obviously he will be at the center of yours.”

After experiencing numerous disappointments during these past 2 months, I come across this phrase… is this possible? It most certainly looks like an optimist’s view. If this were reality, the suicidle rate would certainly decrease, if this were fantasy, I feel sorry for those who still believe in this.

If you asked me if I believed in this two months ago, I would probably smile and say yes. But after what I had to face during these past few weeks, all I could do is shrug, psh and say, uh, no.

After reading and rereading this simple paragraph, I really wonder, do some people experience/experiencing this? it is probably just me who doesn’t.

A phrase suddenly pops up in my mind: no body said that God was fair, but He is certainly just.

but why must I be in this unfairness?

Spring is here ~*

So I guess this is human nature, that when spring comes, we all just want to clean and tidy up everything, or why would there be something called “Spring Cleaning” no?

Well, I’ve been cleaning, procrastinating. Just a few days ago I was cleaning my inbox and hard disk and came across a few quite meaningful emails/forwards/stories/whatnots so just so I will post them here soon, but I am not posting them just for the heck to get more posts, I just really feel that those stories are really meaningful and worth reading ^^

‘hea’

I know I had already posted this on my xanga already, so I apologize to all those who have to read it again…  and for the repentant for the redundancy and yes, I am showing off I know, just because… well… I know :D

To my fellow curious Chinese friends,

I have finally found where the new word “hea” comes from.

happy + 一下= ‘hea’

happy + jat haai take the ‘H’ from happy and ‘e’ from the Chinese pronounciation of ‘happy’ with a twist and ‘a’ from 一下’s 下. And there you have it “hea”

^^ cheers

Abortion? Decisions!

So I found this email I received almost 8 years ago, This is what was written:

Question 1: If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis; would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before scrolling down to the answer of this one.

Question 2: It is time to elect a new world leader, and your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three leading candidates: Candidate A: Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He’s had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day. Candidate B: He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening. Candidate C: He is a decorated war hero. He’s a vegetarian, doesn’t smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn’t had any extramarital affairs. Which of these candidates would be your choice?

Decide first, no peeking, then scroll down for the answer.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt Candidate B is Winston Churchill Candidate C is Adolph Hitler And by the way: Answer to the abortion question if you said yes, you just killed Beethoven.

Somehow, I chose Candidate A… don’t ask why… 6th sense? And for the abortion, I said… not sure… if there is still a slim chance, it is still a chance :P

Something to reflect on about

Love Is Not Written On Paper…

“Love is not written on paper, for paper can be erased.
Nor is it etched on stone, for stone can be broken.
But it is inscribed on a heart, and there it shall remain forever…”

So true~

Regret?

Today, I was on Xanga and Facebook and came across a friend’s profile, it was a sweet picture of him and his girlfriend. His girl friend for almost 3 years

Reflecting back 4 years ago, he asked me out, he asked me for a total of 5 times and asked me to be his girlfriend for a total of 4 times in 3 years, but each time I said no, because:

1. I didn’t have feelings for him

2. we didn’t know each other well enough

3. …?

Now looking at the pictures with him and his girlfriend, I thought, if I had said yes than, could it be me in those pictures?
sadly, I don’t know, perhaps it was fate, maybe just maybe, if we did attempt to go out, perhaps we would have already broken up, we perhaps cannot even be friends, maybe our hearts would have been broken into tiny pieces.

OR, we could have been as happy as he is, now with his girlfriend, yet I don’t regret the decision I’ve made … they look sweet, right here, right now: (if you are reading this, please understand :) I just want to wish them all the very best in their relationship. yet, it is in the past, since it is unchangeable try to change the future instead

Chance is important, yet, fate is even more.

The Philosophy behind the cranes

How to make a paper crane

It was said “Make 1000 cranes and your wish would come true”

Actually, after attempting, and stopping at 500 cranes, I realized how wise the person who made this statement is.

1. As you make the cranes, this gives you time to think, thinking about your wish, is this what you really want? it gives you time to think over the good and bad side of whatever you wished, in other words, it slow you down.

2. If you do make 1000 cranes, as I had tried, it had taken weeks… either you are not interested in what you wished for or you just plain don’t care anymore
3. By the time you do make 1000 cranes, you ‘wish’ had already happened or whatever result had came.

4. As I made the cranes, I realized the more I made, the more my ‘wish’ became to drown out and different ‘wishes’ or different versions of the ‘original wish’ arise. Does this mean I have to start again from the beginning now that my original wish and desires have changed?

This person is so smart, period.

Unfair? that’s life.

So I was sitting in Political science, and a story popped up in my head. I heard it years ago, apparently this is a true story.

A grade 2 class was heading out to a field trip, and the teacher told 20 kids to wait on the sidewalk. The teacher had to get some approval and paperwork done by the school office, so she went inside, the kids were outside by themselves, and a few kids decided to play on the streets (where the roads were), one kid said, no, didn’t you hear what our teacher said? she said we have to stay on the sidewalk because our teacher told us to, but no one listened, this kid kept insisting, stay on the sidewalk, the teacher told us to stay on the sidewalk. The other  kids laughed at him and said “no, you should come on the roads”

moments later a truck was coming down the road, he saw all the kids on the road, and he tried to avoid them so he wouldn’t crash into them, so he steered away into the side walk and ended up crashing into the kid, the one kid who listened. The kid ended up dying.

I don’t know where exactly, or who exactly I heard this story from, but its been almost 10 years since I last heard it, even now, I still cry when I remember that story. I thought, that kid didn’t deserve to die, the other 19 kids did. He did what was right, he obeyed, but… . Why?

The teacher who told me this story said the moral of this story is: Go with the crowd, no matter how right you are, it is best to stick with the crowd, its terrible, but that’s life.

I tred to think of a better moral to the story because that moral just doesn’t seem to comply, but really, is that the fact?
