I really wonder, why are the Olympics so popular yet the Paralympics are not? Why should the Olympics be classified as a world event while the Paralympics are just ‘that other sports’ event where no one really takes notice of them?
Could this be the result of people paradox of wanting to look at those who are better than them?
The Paralympics are so under-rated.. who really has seen their opening or closing ceremonies? (yes they do exist).
(a picture of the Paralympics opening ceremony)

In my Opinion, both Olympic athletes and Paralympic athletes have worked equally hard, they all deserve the same sort of recognition.
(on top of everything… Paralympics is not even a word on my spell check =.=)

it’s an interesting thought. my mom was saying the same thing too, and i also wondered about it.
so perhaps lots of people are wondering about the same thing. maybe the only reason it’s not considered a world-class event is because people in the *media* don’t consider it to be one…

@ Ambrose
HAHA really? I guess the media does play a big part… but so do others… media tend to sell people what they want to see and hear rather than a real perspective of their own… its all about money nowadays

I am doing a Research paper on the difference between the Special Olympics and the Paralympics, AND the regular olympics, and how people think that the Special Olympics/Paralympics could be disrepectful to some, but i believe it’s a great way for people with a disability to show off their skills.
