The Philosophy behind the cranes

How to make a paper crane

It was said “Make 1000 cranes and your wish would come true”

Actually, after attempting, and stopping at 500 cranes, I realized how wise the person who made this statement is.

1. As you make the cranes, this gives you time to think, thinking about your wish, is this what you really want? it gives you time to think over the good and bad side of whatever you wished, in other words, it slow you down.

2. If you do make 1000 cranes, as I had tried, it had taken weeks… either you are not interested in what you wished for or you just plain don’t care anymore
3. By the time you do make 1000 cranes, you ‘wish’ had already happened or whatever result had came.

4. As I made the cranes, I realized the more I made, the more my ‘wish’ became to drown out and different ‘wishes’ or different versions of the ‘original wish’ arise. Does this mean I have to start again from the beginning now that my original wish and desires have changed?

This person is so smart, period.

Unfair? that’s life.

So I was sitting in Political science, and a story popped up in my head. I heard it years ago, apparently this is a true story.

A grade 2 class was heading out to a field trip, and the teacher told 20 kids to wait on the sidewalk. The teacher had to get some approval and paperwork done by the school office, so she went inside, the kids were outside by themselves, and a few kids decided to play on the streets (where the roads were), one kid said, no, didn’t you hear what our teacher said? she said we have to stay on the sidewalk because our teacher told us to, but no one listened, this kid kept insisting, stay on the sidewalk, the teacher told us to stay on the sidewalk. The other  kids laughed at him and said “no, you should come on the roads”

moments later a truck was coming down the road, he saw all the kids on the road, and he tried to avoid them so he wouldn’t crash into them, so he steered away into the side walk and ended up crashing into the kid, the one kid who listened. The kid ended up dying.

I don’t know where exactly, or who exactly I heard this story from, but its been almost 10 years since I last heard it, even now, I still cry when I remember that story. I thought, that kid didn’t deserve to die, the other 19 kids did. He did what was right, he obeyed, but… . Why?

The teacher who told me this story said the moral of this story is: Go with the crowd, no matter how right you are, it is best to stick with the crowd, its terrible, but that’s life.

I tred to think of a better moral to the story because that moral just doesn’t seem to comply, but really, is that the fact?

What is it like to be in love?

I, who has never been in an relationship constantly has all these imageries of what it would be like to be in love. The Holy Bible alludes me through 1 Corinthians 13. But really… what is it like? Am I able to fulfill what has been given & outlined? what if I fail miserably? struggles. An experience is worth more than words could ever elucidate, it is solidly through emotions and feelings.

Sometimes when I am alone, deep inside, I would have fantasy illusions about being in a relationship… very happy optimistic views :)

As must as I hate couples showing off all the time, I feel shameful for not having the opportunity to share the affair. But what if they are only dramatizing the truth? Perhaps this is the real reason why I refuse to be deeply acquainted with this? Somehow, the more I think of this, the more I think of it as gambling, as it contains risks, chance and probability.

however, as much as I want to experience this, I am really afraid to be disappointed by it when it comes, I am frightened that that all there is to it, just an optimist’s view; that it is just that: an illusion, a fantasy, a dream.

Making Money vs. Time

from one of Andy Lau’s album*(I highly recommend this album to anyone anytime, please email me for info): I can make as much money with time, but I cannot make up the time I could spend with you… (ok, I admit it, my Chinese Translation sucks, somehow the phrase sounds better in Chinese) (anyone who has a better translation please translate)

(simp.)钱我可以用时间賺,但系我不可以用钱来賺番我同你一起的时间。

(trad.) 錢我可以用時間賺,但係我不可以用錢來賺番我同你一起的時間。

(side note: I haven’t heard this expression in a really long time, but the phrase went… some where similar to this… so please excuse the bad Chinese grammar)

I only have one expression: awww. so sweet.

my response: Think making 1 million dollars in an hour is hard? try using 1 million dollars to buy back a lost hour. (or even a second)

*(the album did not exactly contain this expression, rather, there was a radio skit version of the album, like I said, please ask me for info)
