Weight Loss or Gain?

January 24, 2007

In response to Parthi’s weight gain plan anybody :

I just find it problematic these days how people care so so much about their outer appearance, as Parthi said… when you are thin, or not as “average” looking, people call you a midget (or anything close to that), but if you are fat, or a bit bigger than some others, people call you a “fatty” or whatever nasty.

My point is that people are so alienated by people who are different from them, and when they are, the “weird” “adnormal” “different” people are laughed at, making it difficult for them to be different,  thus, in the end, they change themselves to “suit” the “others” . The rest in order to make themselves get a sense of belonging would try their hardest to exclude others.

On second thought, as I mentioned earlier, those different people care too much about themselves, giving a chance for others to make fun of them. All of those ads where you are able to find EVERYWHERE in every magazine, newspaper, TV Channel, internet, etc. 1. stupid weight loss ads, if one looked at them long enough, it would be enough for them to start wanting to look like those ‘caked’ up celebrities. And ofcourse, I cannot even get started on those 2. plastic surgery ads, I just find them so disgusting! As Cindy Sherman had made her point: are we the sum of the pictures we consume? I hate how they are so fake, one thing I learned in New Media Studies last year was that all those ads, with the perfect skin, the perfect complexion, and the perfect facial features, perfect body shape, they had if not more 80% of the original pictures had been photoshopped.

anyways, I was totally astonished when my prof showed me this link to which he called: being pretty as photoshop: http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/digital.html (btw, you would have to click on the pictures on the right, than scroll over them to see the effects!) I mean, its such an outrage! But I gotta admit, this guy, Greg Apodaca’s is good! :)

Come on people, you were born an original, don’t die as a copy.
